The City of Bratislava and Spectra, Centre of Excellence organised on 8th November a local conference within the European research project POLYCE.

The aim of the event was to bring together local and regional stakeholders in order to discuss about preliminary project results and strategies developed for the city of Bratislava. Among the audience there were representatives of the city of Bratislava, municipalities, spatial planning research bodies and business related to spatial development.

POLYCE stands for “Metropolisation and Polycentric Development in Central Europe” and is a research project in the ESPON 2013 programme (“European Observation Network for Territorial Development and Cohesion”) POLYCE is conducted by an international consortium of universities and research institutes across Europe. The project analyzes polycentric and metropolitan development in Central Europe and therefore focuses the five cities of Bratislava, Budapest, Ljubljana, Prague and Vienna. The project aims at identifying competitive and cooperative strategies for future development of the five cities and the Central European territory.

The programme started with the short introduction of the POLYCE project mission and philosophy, conducted by profesor Maros Finka, Executive Director of Spectra. Later, a short brainstorming focused on the perception of the terms of polycentricity and metropolization followed.

Ing, Zuzana Ladzianska introduced the results from the work packages WP2.0., WP 2.1, WP 2.2 and WP 2.3. These outputs are related to the issues of metropolitan potentials and territorial assets, polycentric systems in Central Europe, modeling Urban growth and metropolisation and profiles of capital city metropolitan areas.

POLYCE3

Dr. Matej Jaššo introduced main analytical results of the work packages WP2.4, focused on perception and assessment of metropolitan characteristics. This workpackage was concentrating on the soft issues (social climate, image of the city, potentials and persepectives) and the data were obtained predominantely by questionnaire survey and desk research. Spectra, Centre of Excellence was responsible for this work package.

Final phase of the conference was devoted to the discussion of the stakeholders, their feedback toward the obtained results, proposal for the future metropolitan development of Bratislava and evaluation of the whole project.
