The Global Financial Crisis: Are We Trapped in an Obsolete Economic System?

Spectra, Centre of Excellence, and CETIP (Center for the Transdisciplinary Study of Institutions, Evolution and Policies) were co-organizators of guest lecture of prof. Daniel W.Bromley from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA under the headline "The Global Financial Crisis: Are We Trapped in an Obsolete Economic System?".

The event was held at the Aula of D.Ilkovič at Mytna 36, on the 23rd October 2012. In this lecture, prof. Bromley argued that the “spirit of the times” is delusional. He suggested that economic theory and practice had lost its way. Pursuit of growth has driven out the necessary focus on the moral dimension of economic processes and economic outcomes. Before Adam Smith, economics was studied as a component of moral philosophy. After two hundred years of intellectual independence it is time to re-imagine economic theory and political economy. After the lecture, the fruitful discussion with students started. "Stop consuming, start protesting..." was one of the message of prof. Bromley toward students´ audience.
